Head of Operational Support Team, Police Crime & Standards Directorate

Richard Mann joined the police service in 1983. During his career he has served predominantly as a Detective, holding operational investigative posts in all ranks.

 He has previously worked for Hertfordshire Constabulary in a variety of roles including Director of Intelligence, Senior Investigating Officer and Head of Crime. His responsibilities have included major crime, source management, child protection, fraud, serious crime, surveillance and forensics. In 2004 he then joined North Yorkshire Police as Head of Specialist Support. In this role he also had responsibility for force wide operational support, crime related issues and control rooms.

 As a crises Negotiator he has been deployed to several national incidents and has led several complex and high profile major crime investigations.

 In April 2006 he was seconded to the Home Office and currently works in the Police and Crime Standards Directorate, where he leads the Operational Support section of the Police and Partnership Standards Unit. His team have a role in supporting operational delivery and the performance of Police and their Partner agencies in some specific Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships. They have also been involved in a variety of projects to improve national performance in relation to the criminal use of firearms, proceeds of crime, video identification, body worn video and domestic violence. He also leads the national Tackling Violent Crime Programme and related work has included previous Alcohol Misuse Enforcement Campaigns and the initiation of related campaigns in relation to under age sales, confiscation, Licensing Reviews and the responsible alcohol sales.

 These areas of work have involved him in a variety of initiatives and the identification and dissemination of good practice to all levels of government and enforcement agencies.
