The search is on to find the City’s best venues for safe and enjoyable socialising. Led by the Safer Portsmouth Partnership, the Portsmouth Best Bar None Scheme will launch to all licensees and other guests at 7pm on March at the Mary Rose Museum theatre. The scheme will provide a formal accreditation for venues that are able to demonstrate efforts to assure customer safety, crime prevention and the prevention of noise, disturbance and the misuse of alcohol and other substances - all objectives under the licensing act. The Best Bar None Scheme has already been successfully run in almost 100 areas over the country, with the communities, local authorities (including police and health services) and the licensed trade feeling the benefits. The categories for premises to enter will include best bar, best club, best pub and best independent premises. The News will also be running a “People’s Choice” category where readers will be able to choose their Best venue based on the four licensing objectives.Licensees attending the launch event will hear full details of how to earn accreditation from David Williams, Chief Executive of Portsmouth City Council and chair of Safer Portsmouth Partnership, and the benefits of the scheme from Bruce Ray, Bacardi’s Director of External Affairs. David Williams said: “This is a great scheme for helping local businesses add to peace of mind for all concerned – most importantly their customers and the community and help demonstrate that together, we are safer”. The scheme will run over three months and will culminate in a prestigious awards ceremony at the New Theatre Royal on June 16th where venues will find out whether they are Best Bar None. Janet Hillier from Portsmouth City Pubwatch said: “ Portsmouth City Pubwatch is pleased to give it's full support to the Portsmouth Best Bar None awards. Licensees should be aware the application system has been amended in response to their feedback making the process simpler. With categories including pub, bar, club and independent, there is now an opportunity for every licensee to showcase the good practice, warm welcome and secure environment they provide for their customers” For more information visit: www.bbnportsmouth.com or call San Van on 023 92834921 or by This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
