June 30, 2009, sees the Somerset wide launch of the Best Bar None Awards, for the best pubs and bars across the region.

Best Bar None is a national award scheme unique to the licensed trade and is currently operating in 80 locations across the UK. It sets a minimum standard of operation and encourages the sharing of best practice by rewarding safe and well managed licensed venues. It was developed to address alcohol related crime and improve the night time environment.

Carlisle and Eden Best Bar None winnersThe results of the second annual Carlisle and Eden District Best Bar None awards were announced last night at a glitzy awards ceremony held at Carlisle Racecourse. On Tuesday night 200 people eagerly waited to find out who had won the top prize for each area, and during the evening raising several thousand pounds for CFM Radio’s charity Cash for Kids.

The accreditation and awards scheme focuses on safety and customer care is designed to help raise standards in the licensed trade. Originally started in Manchester in 2000 the Best Bar None scheme has gone from strength to strength, with approximately 80 areas now running the scheme. The Carlisle and Eden scheme has been a great success in its two years, the intention is to continue to build on this and roll the scheme out to more venues across both districts during 2009/10.

Winners of this year’s Havering Nightlife Awards PDF Print E-mail

Winners of this year’s Havering Nightlife Awards were announced at a glitzy ceremony last night.

The awards, which attracted more than 32,000 votes from the public, were handed out by Licensing Minister Gerry Sutcliff at Liquid & Envy nightclub, Romford.

Swing band the British Rat Pack entertained the 300 guests before the winners were announced.

Walkers Stadium, LeicesterThe second Best Bar None (BBN) National Conference will take place on 14 October 2009 at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester.

Leicester has been selected as the venue because Leicester BBN were crowned “most innovative scheme” at the 2008 conference. They fought off competition from over 80 BBN schemes throughout the UK.
