Best Bar None Winners rewarded at Parliamentary Reception PDF Print E-mail

Over 170 people attended a Parliamentary Reception at The House of Lords, Peers dining room to showcase Best Bar None (BBN) and all that has been achieved in the fight against alcohol related crime. More than half the attendees were Best Bar None Award winners from schemes around the country.

Lord Redesdale, Chairman of BBN, kicked off the speeches saying how very important BBN is to the industry and the country and thanking the winners of the schemes for their hard work.

Guest speaker – The new Home Office Minister of State Lord Henley said: "The Best Bar None scheme is a fantastic example of responsible retailing in action. Every venue should be striving to raise their standards to a level that provides a safe and welcoming focal point in the community”

“Retailers who encourage their customers to drink in a responsible and safe way are not only protecting the health of the drinkers but also helping to prevent crime and disorder.”

This year saw the new partners Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands, Diageo, Heineken and Molson Coors jointly sponsor the reception and Bruce Ray, Director of External Affairs at Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands, spoke on behalf of the all the companies commenting “Through Best Bar None we have the opportunity to show what the industry can do when it comes together to support the on-trade in probably the best demonstration of corporate social responsibility in action in the UK today. Our investment will means that those who want to start, or develop, a Best Bar None scheme will have access to help, guidance, experience and support to make that happen. Best Bar None not only drives responsibility in outlet, it is proven to reduce alcohol related issues and grow footfall and therefore sales

Ipswich who won ‘The Most Innovative Scheme’ at last year’s BBN conference was represented by Caroline Elias, BBN Officer who added that Ipswich are very honoured to have won the Most Innovative Scheme at the 2010 Best Bar None Practitioners Conference and are very proud of being part of the Best Bar None national scheme.”

The second Best Bar None National Winners Parliamentary Reception will take place on Thursday 06 October 2011 at the Peers Dining Room, House of Lords.

 This is a chance to celebrate outstanding initiatives taken by individuals in the licensed trade and rewarding them for making each scheme a success.

 Lord Redesdale chairman of Best Bar None and host for the reception said “Best Bar None is very important to the industry and country and has been achieving some fantastic results. which is a real testament to the diligence of licensees involved in the scheme.”

 We are very excited to be running the National Award again this year. All the overall winners of the individual Best Bar None schemes from around the country have been taking part.

The winner will be announced on the evening.

Nick Simmonite from the Frog & Parrott, Sheffield was crowned the first Best Bar None National Winner in 2010 and said “It has been a great honour to win the First Best Bar None National Award and proves best practice and social responsibility are a top priority to guarantee a good safe night out in the heart of Sheffield.”

Doncaster's pubs, clubs and bars invited to enter acclaimed Best Bar None licensing awards PDF Print E-mail

More than 100 pub, club and bar licensees from across Doncaster have been invited to enter a successful scheme aimed at keeping customers and visitors safe.

The award-winning Best Bar None (BBN) scheme is in its sixth year in Doncaster and rewards members for creating a safe and responsible environment for customers.

Licensees and guests gathered at Manana Manana, the 2011 overall winners and winners in the Best Bar category, to launch the nationally-recognised scheme.

Best Bar None also provides accredited training courses for staff across Doncaster and over the last twelve months has run almost 40 training courses, which have helped over 500 managers and staff to deliver an enhanced service to customers. Courses are now delivered on a monthly basis in conjunction with Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC) and the next courses will focus on first aid and licensing law.

Sutton Best Bar None Awards 2011 results PDF Print E-mail

The winners were announced at out Awards Dinner at the Holiday Inn, Sutton, on Tuesday 5th July. The winners were announced by Council Leader Sean Brennan and presented by Cllr Brennan and Detective Chief Supt Guy Ferguson, Sutton Borough Commander.

In his speech after the awards last night Council Leader Sean Brennan said: "It's been marvellous.

I would like to congratulate all those who have been accredited and those who have gone on to be award winners and runners-up. The standards have been high this year and you have shown you are committed to raising the standards and showing that Sutton borough is a place for a great evening out, and where people can feel safe and secure. What's different about Sutton? I believe it is the warm welcome, care and consideration and courtesy that people receive. We appreciate all your hard work -well done."

Supt Phil Willis added: "Best Bar None provides a focus for us to make our bars, pubs and clubs across the borough safer and better places to enjoy. We had a total of 26 premises which received accreditation and award status. That's a fantastic achievement of which the borough should feel justly proud."
