A Middlesborough bar has been judged the winner of Middlesbrough’s Best Bar None awards scheme for 2010. TS One on Southfield Road scooped the top prize for best overall bar or club in Middlesbrough’s Best Bar None awards 2010. TS One was also presented with the award for Best Bar at the award ceremony held at the Thistle Hotel. Chicago Rock Café and Love2Love won the category for Best Club. The Best Bar None Awards are in their fourth year and are run by Middlesbrough Council. Bars and clubs are judged on how well they are run, looking at how they deal with issues such as preventing crime and disorder and public nuisance, promoting public safety and protecting children from harm. TS One demonstrated a commitment to improving standards and implementing policies and procedures to create a safe environment for their customers.A total of 16 venues met the high standards required by the scheme and were awarded Best Bar None accreditation. Councillor Barry Coppinger, Executive Member for Community Protection at Middlesbrough Council, said: “It is satisfying to be in a position to reward good working practices in local licensed premises. “Credit goes to all those who have taken up the challenge and tackle the problems associated with alcohol misuse. “Without the commitment of the licensed trade this would not be possible.” Cllr Coppinger extended his congratulations to the other finalists with The Hub at Teesside University Students Union coming second in the Best Club award and Flares and Reflex taking third place. The Terrace Bar at Teesside University Students Union took second place for Best Bar with the Rudds Arms at Marton in third.
Adam Chilton, manager of TS One, said: “I always knew TS One was one of the best pubs in town and it’s nice to be rewarded for all our efforts and to know that other people within the industry feel the same. “We have an excellent set of staff and an excellent set of customers and I think that combination makes for a really good atmosphere and is the main reason why there is never any trouble in the pub. “I think it’s important pubs and clubs support this scheme as we all need to pull together in what is a tough time for the industry." |
